Buckman is open to students in the Portland Public Schools district. We are both a neighborhood school and open to students outside the neighborhood through the PPS School Choice lottery process.
Application Process for Non-Neighborhood Families
To apply for admission to Buckman from outside the neighborhood, you must attend a mandatory school tour and sign the school's Statement of Understanding, and fill out the proper transfer application forms required by Portland Public Schools.

School Choice Applications become available at all PPS schools starting January 29, 2010 and must be received by Portland Public Schools by March 12 at 5:00pm in order to be included in the lottery.

Application Process for Buckman Neighborhood Families
Students living in the Buckman neighborhood, as defined by Portland Public Schools, do not need to fill out a School Choice Application, but they must contact the Buckman office to indicate their intention to attend Buckman. They are also encouraged to attend the Kindergarten Roundup.
Kindergarten Roundup
Our Kindergarten Roundup, which is for Buckman neighborhood families, will take place on Wednesday, February 3, from 6:30 to 7:30pm. At the Kindergarten Roundup, a hands-on creative activity will be provided for neighborhood children interested in attending Buckman.

Buckman Arts Focus Elementary School offers an exciting arts-integrated learning environment for students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Buckman nurtures the whole child and strives for academic excellence through rich experiences in the visual, movement and dramatic arts. Buckman is open for admission through Portland Public Schools’ transfer process.
