- PTA funding for room 214?
- Only just have it official enough to get it planned
- Will be working with PTA for funding
- Anecdote – by mid-Oct one class had so many class clears and fire-alarm pulls, curriculum wasn’t getting met. Is this a sudden increase in disruptive behavior, or are we missing SPED educators, or both?
- Staffing has gone down while needs have gone up
- Stressors build up even worse and drive people out
- 12-14 students max for 2 SES classrooms in Buckman – K-2 and 3-5
- Kids from other schools take slots, few Elem schools in the district offer the SES classrooms
- Buckman might be the only school with 2 classrooms
- “504” accommodations, not legally required, for specific needs. VS. IEP – a legally binding agreement for services that child needs due to a formal diagnosis (these students are in typical classrooms)
- Above that is the SES classrooms
- Above that is a specialized school, near 1:1 teacher
- Ultimately, IEPs are not being fulfilled by the district
- Funding has been cut and positions are unfilled
- Is there a group to help advocate, regardless of your student’s status?
- It can be made, but doesn’t exist yet.
- Is the SPED parent group just for SPED parents?

PTA Mission:
The overall purpose of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
Land Acknowledgement:
“Every community owes its existence and vitality to generations from around the world who contributed their hopes, dreams, and energy to making the history that led to this moment. Some were brought here against their will, some were drawn to leave their distant homes in hope of a better life, and some have lived on this land for more generations than can be counted. Multnomah county rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, bands of Chinook, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla and many other Tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. We pay respects to their elders past and present. Truth and acknowledgment are critical to building mutual respect and connection across all barriers of heritage and difference. We begin this effort to acknowledge what has been buried by honoring the truth.”
